  RAW PROCESSING :

raw image file
Overview:

What is a RAW image file? A RAW image file consists of minimal data that is processed from any digital cameras or the image scanners. The RAW image files are so named as they are not yet ready or processed to be used for any digital image editing processes. Also the RAW image files are many a times called as ‘Digital Negatives’ as they serve the same purpose of the ‘Photographic Film Negatives’ but stores more information than a photographic film negative to create an image. As compared to the photographic film negative, a digital negative, i.e. the RAW image file have a wider color gamut than the final image format. All the in-camera raw settings suchlike sharpening, saturation, and white balance can be selected and adjusted after the shutter is pressed by applying these settings to the RAW image files on the computer. At JaincoTech, we practice the raw processing service by converting the Canon digital camera RAW image format version 2.0 (CR2) to Tagged image file format (TIFF).

Image Commutation from CR2 to TIFF:
CR2 format: Canon digital camera RAW image format abbreviated as CR2 is an image file format written by the popular Canon digital cameras. Raw format is he data that is directly written to the memory from the CCD or CMOS chip without any alteration, processing and compression. CR2 files contain lot of information and these files are stored as per the TIFF Standards with some modification to the file and are also inclusive of the EXIF details.

TIFF: Tagged image file format abbreviated as TIFF is a tag based file format which is projected to promote the interchange the digital imaging data. TIFF is a globally standardized graphics format that is used virtually by all graphic programs running in the world. TIFF is the only format that has a pro with an equivalent con to itself: there is no compression technique used, no loss of data associated, thus the file size increases to enormous proportions.

All Digital cameras normally save images in either JPEG or RAW format. Most individuals save the files in JPEG format; however it is better to save in CR2 rather in the JPEG format. JPEG deteriorates the quality of the images while CR2 camera raw format keeps the quality intact without losing on the image details. A CR2 format is a camera raw format that can also contain information on text along with the image details and other relevant conditions in the camera that gets captured when a picture is taken. All the images in a CR2 format are based on the basic TIFF Standard. Accordingly, the final output delivered to client is in the TIF format with the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) format. On client’s request, we also provide output in JPEG format commuted from the camera raw file format (CR2). On the other hand, TIFF is a very flexible format that can handle multiple images and data in a single file itself. The TIF format is also widely backed up by the image-manipulation applications, thus improvising the final image output through quality driven services.

Complementary and Other Image Editing Services:
On conversion of the CR2 to the TIF format, we at JaincoTech run the basic and complementary image editing services of Color Correction and Dust Spotting to settle the final image output with a perfect look. With additional instructions from the clients, we also serve them with our bouquet of image processing services that comprises of photo retouching, photo keywording, photo restoration and the raster to vector services.

Just get in touch with us and let us prove our credibility earned over time.

TIPS on RAW Processing:

  • While you are working with an overexposed file or an underexposed file, work over some digital blending by overexposing a copy and then underexposing a copy, then open each of the three files Photoshop and tweak the layers as necessary.
  • You can save your time while saving the files; in case you don’t want to rename a batch or select a different file format, you can skip that option by holding the ALT key before hitting the SAVE button.

    TIPS on Camera formats:
Use the CR2 format rather than the JPEG format:
  • As the camera’s picture style or the white balance can be altered at a later stage by using the RAW editor.
  • The color tones can also be manipulated by using a CR2 format (raw format); whereas one cannot change any settings once it is saved in the JPEG format.
